Where could that mysterious file be?

How might we create a more user-centric and customizable Consumption Analytics dashboard for the Greenlake Cloud Platform?

Summary

HPE GreenLake Consumption Analytics helps organizations monitor and manage their consumption and usage of IT resources and services.

The Consumption Analytics dashboard, the product I directly worked on, enables customers to gain insights into their usage patterns, resource allocation, and cost efficiency. This data is shown through charts on the dashboard (ex. pie chart showing budget allocated to different categories).

My primary responsibility was to enhance the UX of the dashboard by implementing features for chart customization.

Role

The existing Consumption Analytics dashboard lacked a intuitive user interface. Users found it challenging to interpret the data presented due to limited customization options and a rigid dashboard structure. The challenge was to address these usability issues and create a dashboard that seamlessly facilitated data comprehension and customization. My job was to figure out why and create a dashboard that addressed those whys.

Reflections

There’s always a way: While direct user research was generally inaccessible due to the B2B context I was working in, digging through past projects and project briefs informed decision making. Anything can be leveraged if reasonable!

Be bold: Out-of-the-box ideas can seem crazy at first. But when backed with informed product thinking and calculated risks, they can actually be the most innovative. I learned to be confident and be able to dissect ideas apart, to create products that are the most revolutionary.

Maintain flexibility: The iterative design process underscored the necessity of flexibility and constant refinement, especially with products that are long-lasting.

Thank you!

This was my first experience in enterprise design and working in such tightly controlled sprints. HPE is a very technical, developer-focused company, which presented its own really unique challenges. I appreciate how much this experience has taught me. Special thanks to the GLCP and Consumption Analytics team!

The Consumption Analytics team was skeptical of the tiled design at first, but they ended up liking my proof-of-concept enough for future implementation!
